How to Create a New Google Chrome Theme

Download New Theme KIT and extract the zip file to any folder on your computer.

Step 1:

Edit the files in images folder.

Step 2:

You can use the original default.dll, from the Chrome installation directory or the downloaded one. Open the default.dll with Resource Hacker and expand "BINDATA". Now you will see resource files starting with 9000.

Replace the changed resource files, one by one, like this.
  1. Right-click on resource
  2. Click on "Replace Resource"
  3. Browse to the correspondent file you edited - keep in mind only correspondingly numbered png's from this package will be compatible with the respective png's in dll. Dont mess the numbers up.
  4. In "Resource Type" write BINDATA
  5. In "Resource Name" white number corresponding to the file you want to replace
  6. In "Resource Language" type 1033
  7. Continue this process for all the files

Upgraded New Theme KIT that replaces all files at once to create a new Theme. Check it here.
How to Install:

To install your new theme, copy the default.dll file and replace the one found in C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\\Themes\ for XP users, or C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\\Themes\ for Vista users

Important Notes:

Don’t forget to make backup of default theme file before replacing with new one.
Don't change the size of the png files when editing them.
